“Yikes,” Jace said. “Yeah, from what Dad told me stray dogs are generally bad news what with skinwalkers and all. Which kinda sucks for the non-evil strays. I’m glad you’re okay. Sounds like you’re a better hunter than me,” He laughed a little.

Kelsey chuckled before waving her hand, “You didn’t have a… pile of research on your desk… and a vision from the spirits of the forest… to go on. Anyone can seem… lucky then. There was… no way you could have… known about that spirit, Jace.”

jacewinchester:

“Oh wow,” Jace said as she described the creature. “That sounds intense. Sounds like this Jo’s a good person to have around like you said.”

"I got lucky… if I hadn’t already figured out… what kind of creature it was… I would have invited it in," Kelsey shook her head, "I’ll never look… at a stray dog the same way again."

Jace did his best to nod. It didn’t work so well, “Always good to prove you’re not evil to hunters. Glad you’re okay, though. Did you finish up the case? What was it?”

”Yes, it’s taken care of… Jo’s a handy guy in a pinch… I was lucky he had a brass knife handy… It was a Rakshasa, apparently… it kept the same hunting… grounds since the 60’s.”

“I wasn’t really looking for a hunt,” Jace frowned, “Are you okay? I remember you mentioning it, but did something try to hurt you?”

"I’m fine… I got help from a friend… well hopefully he still thinks of me… as a friend. Called a hunter I met… and he stumbled upon my altar room… things got interesting but… I think I got through to him… that I’m not evil."

jacewinchester:

“Not yet. I don’t wanna make him do that to his friend,” Jace explained. “My dad’s on his way back from a hunt. He’ll take care of it so Tommy doesn’t have to. I’ve got no plans to go back there anytime soon anyway.”

"That’s good… Sounds like we both had bad luck… on hunts." She gave a small smile, "Remember that… strange murder I mentioned? Well apparently the creature responsible… noticed me when I went out… to the scene. It’s taken care of… now but that’s the first time… any thing like that’s happened to me."

“Thanks, that’s okay. I’ve got friends that could help, but like my mom said…Last night they told me my back was broken in two places. If I’m suddenly fine, it’ll draw way too much attention,” Jace explained. “At least a week. Maybe two before I can go home. Like I said, once I’m home I should be in one piece again. We know people luckily. They’re giving me lots of pain killers so I should be okay.”

"Two weeks isn’t so bad," Kelsey smiled a moment before it faded, "Did your boyfriend… salt and burn the body?" She hated to ask but she didn’t want to see Jace hurt again.

jacewinchester:

“Sorry. I’m kinda in a bad mood. I know you didn’t,” Jace offered a small smile. “Nah, they said my spinal cord is fine. Just broke some bones. In two places, apparently. I’ll be fine,” He moved a little and groaned.

“Just in a lot of pain and I’m stuck here for a while. Once I go home I should be back on my feet really fast,” Like in seconds, he thought to himself. “Tommy spent the night, but I told him to go home and get a shower and all that. He’ll be back soon.”

She gave a small smile and leaned on the back of a chair, “That’s good… though I’m sorry you’re in… pain. My healing spells aren’t… that advanced or I’d offer to… help ease your pain. How long… will you be in here?”

“Hi,” Jace said looking over at her the best that he could. “Not exactly. I mean Tommy didn’t land me in the hospital, if that’s what you mean,” He sighed.

“Tommy was raised in an orphanage and one of his friends died there. We went to visit his grave and Tommy was showing me around and, well, turns out his friend didn’t exactly cross over or whatever you wanna call it. Instead, he’s a vengeful spirit. A really strong little kid ghost,” Jace mumbled. “Threw me down a flight of stairs and broke my back.”

For someone who never wanted anything to do with hunting, it really sucked to land in the hospital like this.

“I’m here for at least a week til they send me home.”

Stepping into the room Kelsey closed the door behind her, “S-sorry, I didn’t mean it like that.”

A frown darkened her face before her eyes grew wide, “A-are you going to be okay? I mean… did you injury you’re… spinal cord?”

It had been less than 24 hours and Jace was already sick of being stuck in the hospital. He just had to make it through the week and then they could convince them to let him go home. Once he was home, they could find someone to heal him. The thought of having to stay for two weeks sucked. He’d convinced Tommy to go home for a little while to take a shower and change before coming back, but in a way he regretted it. He was lonely and about the only thing he could do was watch TV, not that there was much on at this time. The nurses came in occasionally to check his vitals and change his IV bag. He was still on serious painkillers that made him lightheaded and woozy. He was willing to bet that was better than the alternative.

Kelsey had gone to the hospital to check on one of her neighbors, Mrs. Burrows, the poor old woman had collapsed while working in her garden. There wasn’t much she could do for her but she did offer to help her with her garden on the hot days so Mrs. Burrows could stay in the safety of her air conditioned house.

As she was walking out she saw a familiar name on a door, J. Winchester. That was odd. Not that Winchester was a popular name but it was strange to see it none the less. Peaking through the door she saw Jace in the bed and frowned.

She knocked on the door before opening it a crack, “Hey Jace… what are you… doing here? Did something… happen with your boyfriend?”

I will b-be. -smiles- The m-most I’ll do is go t-to the scene o-once it’s clear. Maybe attempt a t-trance and see what h-happened. Or t-there might be a clue the r-reporter left out.

That doesn’t sound too dangerous. If other hunters show up besides  your friend, might wanna keep the magic quiet. A lotta them don’t like that. Don’t wanna turn into the hunt.

It’s the f-first set of bodies, and i-it only appeared in the paper this morning. I d-don’t think there are any in the a-area, I should be safe.

I’ve b-been dodging hunters for y-years, Jace, I s-still wonder if the o-one that killed my t-teacher is looking for m-me too. So I’m c-careful.

Alright, as long as you don’t go running into anything on your own.

N-no way! -chuckles- I’m u-useless in a fight, even if I’m practicing archery a-again. I just want to b-build a c-case first. To be c-certain it wasn’t an a-animal or a n-normal psycho.

Well, that’s good. Just be careful of the normal psychos too. They’re just as bad as the monsters.

I can’t really help you. Not a hunter. You shouldn’t get involved. Find some hunters to take care of it. It’s dangerous.

-chuckles- I p-planned to, I met a h-hunter named Jo. I think h-he’ll help me out, o-once I’m sure there’s a case.

T-the article was vauge but, a c-couple were found in their camp site. Said they were m-mauled but there h-hasn’t been a wild bear in this a-area for decades. A-also it mentioned t-that the rest of the campsite w-wasn’t disturbed. A b-bear would have t-torn anything containing f-food apart.

I-I know… I just… I d-don’t like reading a-about people dying around m-me if I c-can help them.

Plus it’s a l-local newspaper, and I d-don’t think their are k-keywords a hunter would p-pick up on a Google s-search.

I’m not feeling really charitable toward other people or hunters right now -sighs- What does it say they’re doing? Any ideas what they might be?

I’m good… I s-saw a strange a-article in the paper. M-might have something in m-my area hurting people.

If it was weird and in the paper, hunters ‘ll probably pick it up. I wouldn’t get involved. Chances are it’ll end badly.
